Connecting to sBNC with mIRC

This guide assumes you already have access to an sBNC server. The different methods should not be mixed up unless you know what you are doing.

Method 1 (Text)

Add a server and group

/server -a address.of.bouncer.com -p port -g sBNC -w password -d Bouncer
  • Replace “address.of.bouncer.com”, “port” and “password” with the actual values.
  • This will add a server group in mIRC called “sBNC” and description “Bouncer” which uses given address when connecting.

Enable identd and setup username

/identd on username
/emailaddr username@
  • Replace “username” with the actual username for your account.
  • The @ behind the second “username” is not a typo.

Connect to the bouncer

/server sBNC

The command above will connect you to a server in the “sBNC” group which we added previously. If you called it something else, you should of course use that name in the command instead.

In the future when you want to connect to your sBNC server you will just have to use the command above. Optionally you can also make mIRC connect to the server automatically when you start it up. See the GUI instruction below.

Method 2 (GUI)

Open options

  • Enter the mIRC Options dialog either through the icon on the toolbar outlined, or the keyboard shortcut ALT+O.

Add server

  • Navigate to the “Servers” node under “Connect” and click the “Add” button.

  • Fill in the details needed to connect to your bouncer.
  • Remember to replace “address.of.sbnc.server.com”, “port” and “password”. The remaining two fields just determines what mIRC should display the server as in it's list.

  • After you have added your server it should appear in the list in a folder with the name you used for Group. Find it and click “Select” with the server marked in the list.

Connect on startup (optional)

  • For mIRC to automatically connect to your sBNC server when you start it up, you can tick the box outlined in the image below.

Enable Identd

  • Enable mIRC's built-in Identd server and make it use the user part from your email address.

Set username

  • Enter the username you are using on the server, with a @ after it.
  • Verify that it is set to use the server you added. Displayed as “group: description”.
  • Click “Connect to server”.
