====== Connecting to sBNC with X-Chat ====== This guide assumes you already have access to an sBNC server. You'll need your username, the IP address or the hostname and the port to connect to. If you are not running the bnc yourself you can get these information from your bnc provider. ===== Setting up the Server ===== * By default the server list dialog is opened automatically when you start X-Chat ==== Set your user details ==== Here you can set global user information, which is used by default for every network. You can set your information either here or later, in any case the most important setting is "User name", which has to be your username or ident you want to use to connect to your sBNC. {{ en:clientconfig:xchat_networklist.png }} If your network is not listed here, you can use the "Add" button to create a new one. For this tutorial we'll just assume you want to use QuakeNet. ==== Add server ==== * Select the network you want to use and click on the "Edit..." button. {{ en:clientconfig:xchat_edit_network.png }} * Click on the "Add" button to add a new server to the list * Replace "server" and "6667" with the data of your bnc * Activate the option "Connect to selected server only" * On the lower part of the dialog, enter your password. If you have entered your username on the screen before, it should work now. If not, you can now disable the option "Use global user information" and enter you user information and your username here: {{ en:clientconfig:xchat_edit_network_2.png }} * (Optional) Activate the option "Auto connect to this network on startup"
